4 - Wheel Balcony car No. 22. from 1880 - 1900 horse trams of the Derby Tramways Co. Ltd. operated four principal routes along the Ashbourne, London, Mormanton and Osmaston roads, nearly five route miles in all. The system was municipalised in 1900 and electrified on 4 ft. gauge in 1904, with new routes and extensions in 1905 - 08. Eventually eight routes reaiating from the center of the town were worked by 74 double - deck cars and four single deck cars. The 14 route miles of electric tramway were replaced by trolley buses in 1932 - 34. |
