The Hancock County Jail at Carthage, Illinois was constructed of native yellow limestone 1839 - 1841 at a cost of $4,105. The building is owned and maintained by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, with headquarters in Salt Lake City. Utah.
