Additional Details:
At the Mark Twain Home. Sam Clemens lived here when a boy, and drew upon his own true life experiences to write "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer." A sign before the fence says that Tom persuaded his gang to pay him for the privilege of whitewashing the fence, and then sat by and saw that it was done. It is the most famous incident in all of American literature.
