PILLAR POINT, Half Moon Bay, California
The beautiful Bay of the Half Moon, San Mateo County's earliest
seaport and modern fishing and yacht harbor, was being slowly
ruined by the shortening of Pillar Point until Uncle Sam came to
the rescue with a breakwater. But the sea is still at work, carving
out pillars, then knocking them down, leaving only a reef where
the Point once extended.
