Additional Details:
Settled in 1859, by 1861 Silver City had a population of 1,200. It was home to boarding houses, saloons, and four hotels. An important link between the Comstock Lode mines of Virginia City, and the processing mills near Dayton and along the Carson River. The town began to decline after 1869 when the Virginia & Truckee Railroad was completed, eliminating Silver City as a freight center.
