LONDON BRIDGE.-The most important
of the London Bridges designed by John
Rennie, begun by his sons in 1825 completed
1831, widened 1904. It is probable that the Romans
erected a bridge here or very near. A wooden
bridge was constructed by the Saxons, and the first
stone bridge in 1176. About 25000 vehicles and
over 120000 foot passengers cross London Bridge
every day.
