The "Island Queen" This park, a unit of the Huron-Clinton Metropolitan Authority, is the finest and most popular nonmunicipal park in Michigan. Located 33 miles from downtown Detroit on U. S. 16, the park covers 4500 acres including 1200 acre Kent Lake and the winding Huron River. Major activities include picnicking, swimming, boating, fishing, nature hiking, and winter sports. Rental boats and boat launching and docking facilities are available and two 1000 foot swimming beaches are provided. The "Island Queen", a 60-passenger sternwheel excursion boat, make scheduled trips around the lake leaving from the Boat Launchina Dock.
