We are advised by cable that the S.S. "Resolute
arrived at Hong Kong March 15, after a smooth
passage from Shanghai. The shore excursions at
Shanghai were carried out most successfully. On the
voyage to Hong Kong there were tournaments of
Bridge, Deck Tennis and Shuffle Board, which
were much enjoyed by the cruise members.
At Hong Kong the shore excursion program
includes sightseeing drives by automobile about the
city and vicinity and a trip to Canton by river
steamer.
The "Resolute" will resume her voyage tomorrow
(March 17) the next port of call being Manila.
UNITED AMERICAN LINES.
HONG KONG, the Island of Fragrant Streams, lying in
the mouth of the Canton River, is the port from which
America gets most of its silk. The harbor is one of the finest
and most beautiful in the world.
It is but a short distance
to Canton, where half a million people, or one-third of the
entire population, live on boats.
