The native grass houses, formerly in
great abundance, are now being displaced
by frame houses. They were, in many in-
stances, built with considerable regard to
appearance and were particularly suitable
to the balmy climate at Honolulu. The
illustration shows natives making poi, the
native bread, in front of a grass house.
