First Spanish governor in 1605 it can be reached in a short drive from grants. At the foot of Mt. Taylor whose picturesque beauty rises to a height of 11,369 feet lies the town to grants. Named for the Grant Brothers who built this section of the Santa Fee Railway - it is today a trading center for a large agricultural and ranching country. Navajos in their colorful costumes may be seen regularly on the streets. These are the workers of the carrot fields - in which industry Grants ranks among the first in the entire U.S.A. The famous Inscription Rock can be easily reached is an interesting drive of approximately 40 miles.
