Additional Details:
John Adams, second President of the United States, was born Oct. 30th, 1735, in that part of the town of Braintree, Mass., which is now called Quincy. He was graduated from Harvard in 1764, and on Oct. 26th, 1764, married Abigail Smith, a lady in culture and social distinction. After a brilliant political career, Mr. Adams passed a quarter of a century at his home in Quincy in peaceful, happy seclusion, devoting himself to literary work. He died in his 91st year, on July 4th, 1826 - the 50th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. He lived long enough to see his son John Quincy become President. Mrs. Adams died in 1818.
