Mississippi River Reflections Randolph County Courthouse This area has always been a center of government. The French from the 1670's until 1765, when the British took over. George Rogers Clark captured Fort Kaskaskia in 1768, paving the way for the Territorial seat. Kaskaskia was also in the first State capital. The upstairs observation area provides a nice view of the Mississippi River valley and the Chester Bridge, in Southern Illinois. |
