Randolph County Courthouse
This area has always been a center of government.
The French from the 1670's until 1765, when the
British took over. George Rogers Clark captured
Fort Kaskaskia in 1768, paving the way for the Terri-
torial seat. Kaskaskia was also the first State
capital. The upstairs observation area provides a
nice view of the Mississippi River valley and the
Chester Bridge, in SOUTHERN ILLINOIS.
