Women kill hippopotami. The Kavirondo women are as brave hunters as th men. This picture shows four of them ready to kill a hippopotamus. Hinting this animal is very dangerous and requires a great deal of skill. For some reason, probably of a religious nature, they cover their bodies ground-nut oil ad ocher, paint hideous designs on their faces and wear headdresses ornamented with wild boar teeth. The spears used are often poisoned.
