Central Avenue, which goes through the very center of
Albuquerque, is also designated as U. S. Highway "66",
one of the finest coast-to-coast highways in the nation. It
is certainly one of the most historic roads in all America,
for possibly at this very point, the Conquistadores may
have passed on their way to Santa Fe, the wagon trains
of the early settlers, Indian raiding parties or the protect-
ing troops of soldiers, all may have played their small
part in the eventual creation of the Central Avenue of
today.
