Back:
In 1905, Lt. Gen. Sir Robert S.
S. Baden Powell, Vice President of
the Boys' Brigade of England, wrote
a book on the lines of “Aides to Scout-
ing” as a means of creating greater
enthusiasm among the boys, and also
giving them a wider field and greater
incentive and variety to their train-
ing in citizenship. This was intended
for use by the Boys' Brigade, but it
proved so successful that other youth
groups for boys not connected with
the Boys' Brigade began to use it to
such an extent that it became appar-
ent that a new youth movement was
beginning. Thus came the English
Boy Scount movement, and by 1910 it
found its way into the United States
and the Boy Scouts of America came
into being.
