Aerial Gateway to the United States, serves more
than a million domestic and overseas air travelers
each month. Operated by The Port of New York
Authority under lease with the City of New York,
the huge air terminal on the shore of Jamaica Bay
is as large as all of Manhattan Island south of 42nd
Street. It was opened in July 1948.
