APOLLO 11 MOON LANDING - July 20, 1969
Passive Seismic Experiments Package (PSEP) de-
ployed on the moon's surface. Two packages were
left on the moon for scientific purposes. The
PSEP is to record moonquakes or other disturb-
ances. The Laser Ranging Retro-Reflector is to
measure the exact distance of the moon from the
earth. Astronauts' footprints on the lunar surface
are in evidence.
While this equipment was left on the moon, the
astronauts brought back 2 boxes of lunar rocks
for scientific research. The first close-up exam-
ination of moon rocks and dust created excitement
among scientists and geologists.
