CHESTER A. ARTHUR was born at Fairfield, Vt.
on Oct. 5, 1830. He was elected Vice-President with Garfield,
and upon the death of the latter assumed the office as President,
serving three years and six months. He was 51 years old
when inaugurated President. He died Nov. 17, 1886.
