TRAINING SHIP "SEVERN." Practice ship for
the cadets of the Naval Academy. A sailing vessel, built at Bath,
Me. It is 175 feet long and 37 feet broad. displacing 1,175
tons of water. Cost, about $112,600. It is armed with six
4-inch rapid-firing guns, besides a secondary battery of smaller
rapid-firers. Keel was laid Aug. 2d, 1898.
