This is one of the oldest cathedrals of Cuba,
erected primitively for Diego Velazquez in 1514.
It is a beautiful monument of national archi-
tecture, contains positive beauty, among which
is a chair balcony. The edifice was destroyed
by three earthquakes, present structure built in
1818 and remodeled in 1922. In its crypts are
the remains of Diego Velazquez, founder of the
city of Santiago.
