Old Wickford Lighthouse on Poplar Point overlooks
the West Passage of Narragansett Bay. The lighthouse
was built in 1831, now much enlarged it is a private
residence. The south arm of the breakwater protect-
ing Wickford Harbor is in the center. This is also the
site of the first land fortifications (coast artillery)
in North America.
