The Kingfisher, or Halcyon, is a bird of most brilliant plumage. . Its
flight is swift and straight, and when seen flying in the sunlight it is of
metallic brilliancy. Its head is blue and black, back blue, chin white,
and breast a bright chestnut, while its legs are red. The female is not
so brightly coloured as the male. The food of the Kingfisher consists of
small fish, which it will pick from the water while on the wing, flying to
a tree to eat its capture. It builds a nest of fish bones, in a hole bored
in the bank, and lays six to eight eggs which are a pure white.
