The Pine Tree. With the Japanese the pine tree is
the king of trees, and it largely enters into their schemes
both of natural decoration and also their painted works of
art. Japan cannot be dissociated from its pines, these
green grey trees standing as guardians at every temple,
bordering the Imperial palace and greeting you on all
sides. They are considered emblems of constancy,
endurance, health, and longevity.,
