YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK
#24661 Lafayette Bunnell, a member of the discovery party' of March 1851, gave Vernal Fall (317 feet) its
name. He wrote that “he named it because of the cool vernal spray... and the blue grass growing among dark
rocks and gay, dripping flowers, making it an eternal April to the ground.” The cloud-like spray of mist creates
arched rainbows and verdant meadows along the rocky trail where moss, ferns and wildflowers are abundant.
