Additional Details:
In the fatal witchcraft delusion of 1692, which cast such a stain upon the high civilization of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, children were the first accusers. In the six months during which the delusion raged nineteen persons were hanged on Gallows Hill, and one man, Giles Corey, was pressed to death. There is no foundation for the statement that the witches were burned. Here lived Ann Putnam, one of the first accusers then 12 years of age. In later years she confessed the errors of her youth. The house was erected previous to 1692. Danvers formed a part of Salem until the year 1752
