Laguna is the youngest of the New Mexico pueblos, being founded in 1699. It is 66 miles west of Albuquerque. Few tourists know that the Pueblo Indians of New Mexico own 900,000 acres of land and since the Treaty of Guadeloupe Hidalgo in 1848 have been full citizens of the United States, maintaining their own forms of government.
