SUMMIT HOUSE FROM. CARRIAGE ROAD. The Summit
House is a long, plain, three-story structure of wood, accom-
modating about 150 guests. It is located on the summit of
Mt. Washington, over 6,000 feet above the sea level, and
thousands tarry here to enjoy the incomparable view which
is to be had from this breezy eminence on any fine day.
The original Summit House was erected in 1852, but was
replaced by the present one in 1873.
