OAK RIDGE, TENNESSEE
This is the Tower Shielding Facility at the
Atomic Energy Commission's Oak Ridge National
Laboratory, Oak Ridge, Tennessee. A reactor of
the swimming pool type is suspended between
the towers, which are about 323 feet high, and
is operated remotely from an underground control
room. The facility is used as a research tool,
simulating an aircraft in flight so that radiation
shielding studies can be carried out.
