Oil was discovered in New Mexico in
1922. There are now approximaldy 1000
wells in the state which yield thirty-seven
million barrels of oil annually to place New
Mexico seventh among the oil producing
states of the nation. Gas from the wells
supplies many towns in Texas and Arizona,
as well as New Mexico, with fuel.
