The Patriot Missile, the “Scud Buster” of Desert Storm, is a
mobile air defense system built by the Raytheon Company.
Each system, including radar, control station, antenna, power
plant, and eight launching stations, costs about $100 million
and needs about 100 soldiers to set up but only three soldiers
to operate. In use, the system components are spread across
the space of two football fields.
