Additional Details:
The old wagon was made in 1821 by the father of General George A. Custer, the great Indian fighter who was killed in the Custer Massacre in 1876. This wagon was used quite a few times by the Custer family in crossing the continent. The ox-driven wagon is now at Lincoln's New Salem State Park, located near Petersburg on Highway 97 & 123. About 17 miles northwest of Springfield, Ill. Color photo by John D. Freeman
