Kinkakuji is the popular name of Rokuonji Temple. The pavilion was erected in 1397 by Ashikaga-no-Yoshimitsu as his retreat. After his death, it was converted into a monastery. The Gold Pavilion stands in a lovely garden at the foot of Kinugasa Hill. The shiny gold beautifully reflects on the pond
