THE DENTON COUNTY COURTHOUSE
Denton, Texas
Completed in 1897, this structure was the fifth in the history
of the county. One earlier courthouse was burned by a member
of the Sam Bass Gang and two others were struck by lightning.
The walls are of native limestone, columns of Burnet County,
Texas marble. The photo was taken from atop the First State
Bank.
Denton County was named for John B. Denton, who as a
Methodist Circuit Rider came to Texas in 1836 from Tennessee.
