Additional Details:
The first evidence of a ring around the planet Jupiter was seen in a photograph taken by NASA's Voyager I on March 4, 1979. A line has been drawn around an actual photograph of Jupiter to show the position of the extremely thin faint ring. The ring thickness is estimated to be 30 km or less. The actual photograph was part of a sequence planned to search for such rings in Jupiter's equatorial plane
