Formal ground-breaking ceremonies for the new "Home of the Army Dollars" were held August 10, 1951. The building was dedicated 26 months later, on October 2, 1953. This 1,000-by-600-foot building covering 14 acres, is the largest Army structure. Nearly 5,000 workers and hundreds of electrical accounting machines are used for the disbursement of more than two billion dollars annually, for allotments of pay, the Army retired payroll, transportation bills of the Army and Air Force, and several other types of centralized payments. In addition, the records of all payments to Army personnel and contractors are audited and stored for ready reference
