61499. In Oak Hill Cemetery, 30th and R
Street, Washington, D.C., lie the remains of
John Howard Payne, author of "Home Sweet
Home.” He died in 1852 while United States
Consul at Tunis and was buried on a hill over-
looking the ruins of Carthage. In 1882 Wm.
W. Corcoran had the remains brought home to
America and the monument shown in view
erected to his memory.
