Additional Details:
Haines, located on the upper arm of the Lynn Canal, originally began as an Indian trading post. Today logging and fishing form a large part of the economy. The Alaska Marine Highway System provides access to and from Haines for traffic on the Haines cutoff to the alaska Highway. PORT CHILKOOT (on left) has been designated a historical site as it was the first permanent U.S. Army Post to be established in Alaska
