The Lion, next to the Tiger, is the largest
animal belonging to the cat family, and is
tan colored. The male is distinguished by his
• majestic mane and is therefore called the
King of Beasts. He leaps when attacking his
prey, and displays most remarkable strength
and courage when he fights his enemies. He
lives amongst the rocky regions of Africa and
hunts his food by day and night. While he is
easily trained, he is difficult to subdue, and it
is considered the hunter's greatest achieve-
ment to bag one of these dangerous beasts of
the tropics.
