First day of issue: August 8, 1988 First issue location: Shreveport, Louisiana A powerful emotion upon which many actions have been based, even in ancient times love was a factor. Christopher Marlowe wrote of "the face that launched a thousand ships, and burnt the topless towers of Illium." He then begged, "Sweet Helen, make me immortal with a kiss." Truly, wars have been fought in love's name, and poetry has been wrought form its strength. Love - a very human emotion - is so powerful it has ennobled history with great love stories that inspire people for centuries. Who could recall the love of Antony and Cleopatra... of Romeo and Juliette... of Sir Lancelot and Queen Guinevere... and not be touched by the tenderness and joy of that love? Lancelot expressed the great power of love thus, "A man had given all other bliss, And all his worldly worth for this, To waste his whole heart on one kiss, Upon her perfect lips." In 1988, the United States Postal SErvice offered a very special tribute to that age-old emotion - a postage stamp in honor of love
