This Monument was erected in 1841 in memory of the victims of the Wyoming Massacre which occurred on July 3-1778. A handful of patriotic Americans, composed chiefly of the undisciplined, youthful and aged, spared by inefficiency from the ranks of the Republic, were overwhelmed by the combined forces of the British, Tories and Indains.
