No other leader, who without source of supplies, guns, and ammunition - fought 18 major and minor engagements in 3 1/2 months covering over 1,500 miles of rough territory, with more than half his tribe composed of non-combatants. In every battle except two, his fighting force was outnumbered from two to four times. Surrendered Oct. 5th, 1877
