2. Peters Church, Oldtown. Tacoma was originally
in the imits of the present first ward, and was popularly
wn as "Oldtown." In this locality is St. Peter's Church,
attractive little edifice, erected early in 1858, ;which is
orated as having the oldest church tower in America.
Lower in reality is the stump of a cedar tree, centuries
which is overgrown with ivy, and stands_close beside
church.
