In June, 1859. John Brown leased for a few months the unoccupied Kennedy Farm in Maryland, about six miles from Harpers Ferry. He was joined there by twenty-one persons. Boxes of arms, ammunition and supplies where shipped to him there and he made ready for his raid. He made this his base of supplies, and when he started on his raid three men remained on guard at the house."
