Mount St. Helens, located in southwest Washington U. S. A. roared to life with the destructive force of a nuclear explosion, blowing 1,300 ft. off the top of its 9677 ft. peak, ofter having lain dormant for 123 years. Magma, gas and hot ash devasted 120 sq. miles; spewing 60,000 ft. into the atmosphere, blowing volcanic ash over most of eastern Washington and surrounding states. this magnificent but awesome photo was taken 6 miles from the south side of Mount St. Helens |
