These large grooves were scoured into the solid limestone by glaciers some 30,000 years ago. The great ice sheet, probably several hundreds of feet high, moved slowly- its tremendous weight, together with the rock and gravel frozen in the ice, formed a giant cutting agent. This is one of the outstanding examples of glacial grooves in America.
