Cow Country - Cow waddies waddle out of these comfortable diggings to feed and cuss their beef laden charges. This ranch on Pryor creek, near the Crow Indian Reservation in eastern Montana, is part of a 60,000 acre spread. Depending on the market and the status of their bank credit, the owners run some 5000 Herefords. These are the red and white short legged critters with a heavy cargo of T-bone steaks and rib roasts. At last census there were 18,733 cattle ranches in Montana owned by men averaging 47.9 years of age and staffed with 2,349,904 moo-ooo-ers. |
