Maximum Speed: 220 mph at 8,000 ft. Range: 1,500 miles. Cruising Speed: 175 mph at 11,000 ft. Ceiling: 22,000 ft. The C-47 was adapted form the DC-3, an airplane evolved for the commercial airlines in the mid 1930's. During World War II. 10,926 C-47 airplanes were produced for service in every area of the world where Allied trops were stationed. The C-47 on dislpay at the AF Museum, W-PAFB, Ohio, was the last C-47 in routine USAF service and was retired in 1975.
