Cobia (SS245) being towed into Manitowoc, Wisconsin harbor where she is permanently moored as a memorial to submarine men throughout the world and to the builders of the 28 Manitowoc built submarines. Launched – November 28, 1943. Commissioned – March 29, 1944. Length – 311'9” Beam – 27'3” Draft – 15'3” Displacement – 1526 tons Depth – 300' Speed submerged – 8.75. Speed surfaced 20.25. Cobia completed 6 war patrols in the pacific during World War II, sinking 13 Japanese ships. 7 downed American fliers were rescued. Cobia is open to the public for guided tours.
