| Thirty of these new planes were purchased by United Airlines to pave the way for Boeing to continue as the largest commercial airplane manufacturer in the world. Developed to give maximum performance per unit of fuel burned it is also four feet wider than the standard Boeing jetliners now in service, and will seat about 200 passengers in a mixed-class configuration. Its range of 2,300 miles fills the void between the 727's and 747's and will save fuel. |
